Scripture: Ephesians 1:1-10

Key verses: (3-6) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5 He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

Reflection: I wanted to start by saying that the young people of our church, and world, worry about being enough. However, I think all of us worry that we are not enough anymore. Regardless of our age or life situation, we go through a time when we feel unloved, unworthy or insignificant.  Read the passage again. God loves you because God chose to love you and God chose you because God loves you.  Those are powerful words. You are enough, you are beloved, you are worthy.

Sit with that for a moment. You are claimed by God and you are loved. We hear that in church a lot but we cannot hear it enough! Today, as you move through your day you will see other people. Each person you meet is loved by our Creator for exactly the same reasons that you are loved. They will not look like you, probably not act like you or think like you but they are created by the same God and called Beloved. They are your brothers and sisters.

What difference would it make if we responded to each person we met today with love? Reaching out with acceptance, tolerance and unconditional love could be exactly what is needed in this world. It is harder than it sounds but just that easy.

Prayer: God of love, take down the walls that have been built up over the years for whatever reasons.  Help me start again today without huge expectations of everyone or even myself. Let me love without conditions. Let me love as you love. In the name of your son who challenges us over and over again. Amen.
