Scripture: Psalm 108

Key verses: (1-5)
My heart, O God, is steadfast;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.

Reflection: This psalm of David invites us into an unwavering faith and commitment to God. It invites us to wake up and in doing so wake up the dawn itself. As we wait for Christmas, we celebrate our unwavering faith … if we are awake.

Are we asleep to the amazing signs of hope that are all around us this advent? Are we too numb, too busy, to annoyed to give thanks to God?  Let’s get it together people and remember…

Remember I don’t have to do everything on my to-do list.

Remember to linger for love. Rushing through our day does not give us time for people to love us or for us to be loving.

Remember that the world does not revolve around us.  When we get annoyed, frustrated and critical (because we will!) let’s wake up and choose some kindness. Maybe we will be someone else’s sign of hope!

Remember that you are enough. Messing up, forgetting and imperfection will be part of life. Let’s not judge ourselves so harshly.

Peace to you as you journey through these advent days.

Prayer: God, guide me through these Advent Days with grace. Slow me down so that I can experience this season and prepare my heart and mind for Christmas.  Help me not to be too exhausted to create a cherished memory, too annoyed to receive offered love (even when it looks different that I hoped to be loved) or too focused on productivity and consuming that I miss an opportunity to give something away. Be with me as I wait and watch for peace, joy and light. In the name of the one who changes everything I pray. Amen.
