Scripture: Mark 1:14-15

Reflection: For Christians, Advent marks the beginning of our new church year.  It is an exciting time of anticipation for all of the wonderful things to come; a time in which we wait on the coming of Christ as we reflect on our own personal past, present and future.  In today’s scripture passage we read about the very beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry. He loudly proclaims that the waiting is over! The prophets’ visions have now come true! God has come near!  What exciting and wonderful news this is indeed!

As we begin our Advent journey, once again let us look with excitement for all the wonderful things to come; look with hope for Jesus to return and fully establish God’s kingdom where there will be no more sorrow, no more pain or death, no more war. Jesus will bring peace and eternal life with Him to all those who believe and wait expectantly. Thanks be to God!

Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for the good news of your greatest gift of all:  Jesus Christ. Fill us with love, joy and excitement as we live each and every day awaiting His coming again. May we be a blessing, in some way, to those you bring into our lives. Use us for your glory.  In Christ’s name. Amen.
